John Wick Rules

by Shannon

I have a huge confession to make – I love action movies. Especially those involving cool fight sequences. As far as I’m concerned, the John Wick films set the bar incredibly high. They are balls to the walls from start to finish and I love every single minute of them.

John Wick 4 is no exception. It was fantastic and everything I could have asked for. If this is really his last ride, he went out on a high note. Action non-stop. Super creative fight scenes. A super long tumble down a flight of stairs, several times. A French, super rich, arrogant and aristocratic bad guy. The incredibly talented Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Lawrence Fishburne return to play again. Plus many others. And then the piece de resistance – Keanu Reeves. I have loved him since he first uttered the words, “Party on dude.” He will always be Ted Logan to me first and foremost, but now that he’s all grown up he is a kick-arse action star.

It’s kind of strange to me that I love these kinds of movies so much. I hate boxing films because of the fights. I also don’t like horror movies, due in large part to the gore. But have it all happen in an over the top action sequence and it’s all good. Something about the believability factor – I know it’s not real when it’s not realistic, unlike boxing. I am an enigma wrapped in a warped mystery.

I do have to note that as much as I love the John Wick fights scenes, my favorite still remains the fight in the garage in The Transporter. It was a perfectly sequenced and soundtracked scene. Jason Statham is firmly in my second spot for fave action star.

Will there be a John Wick 5? I hope so. I know at one point Keanu said he’d keep coming back as long as the audience wanted him to. Mr. Reeves, we do. I promise we want to see you suit up and live to fight again. 🙂
